Man's rectum falls out after he uses phone for 30 mins in loo.
A Chinese man's rectum fell out of his body after he spent over 30 minutes playing games on his phone while sitting on the toilet seat. Doctors said the man's rectum lost its attachment due to the long duration spent as he suffers from rectal prolapse. Spending long periods of time trying to poo can damage pelvic muscles, they added.
A lot of people have the habit of carrying their phones to the loo. It probably gives them some peaceful time to read, watch or play games. But sometimes, it may have dangerous consequences. As it happened to a man in south-east China. The man had to rush to a hospital at midnight after his rectum fell out of his body. And the reason will leave you shocked. Apparently, the man had spent too much time playing on his phone while on the toilet. After he reached the hospital, he explained to the doctor that he had spent over half an hour playing games while trying to poop. Fortunately, the man underwent surgery and is currently recovering.
The Daily Mail reports that the man, while sitting in the toilet and playing games, was taken aback when he saw a mysterious ball-sized lump fallen out of his anus. Doctors said that the ball-sized lump, which was still attached to his anus, was his rectum. It had lost its attachment to his body. News reports from China quote the doctors saying that the man suffered from a condition called rectal prolapse. It could be caused by the fact that the man had sat on the toilet for more than 30 minutes. The incident took place in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, on February 4. The man, who has not been named, was treated by Dr. Su Dan from the gastrointestinal surgery division of The Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. The doctors successfully removed the lump on the same day.
Dr. Su said to a reporter from Kan Kan News that the man’s situation was severe. Rectal Prolapse is a condition that sees the last part of one’s intestines losing its attachment to the body and becoming visible from outside the body. She adds, “The patient has had rectal prolapse since he was four years old, but the bulge was able to retract in the past.” However, she explains, since he did not have the condition treated in the past, it got worse. A CT scan shows a ball-shaped bulge outside the patient’s anus. The lump had a diameter of 16 centimetres (6.3 inches). The doctors said that though the man had the condition since early years, the cause of the prolapse was the long duration spent on the toilet.
Explaining the negative impact of spending long hours in the toilet, Dr. Su’s colleague said that whether one is sitting or squatting over a toilet, the pressure in the abdomen builds up which would force the rectum to stick out as the pelvic muscles are not strong enough to hold. Mail Online also quotes Dr. Su saying that when the patient was trying to defecate, the action could have weakened his muscles in the pelvis. As an advisory, the doctor said that anyone who suffers a similar condition should get themselves treated as soon as possible.
